Dosshaus: In the Country of Marvels

Dosshaus: In the Country of Marvels

Zoey Taylor & David Connelly
May 1-31, 2017

Artist Reception: Sunday, May 7th 2-6PM

Sparked by a recent trip to Belgium during which they immersed themselves in the art and poetry of the region, Dosshaus presents a new House of Cardboard installation entitled In the Country of Marvels.

Within its walls, monochromatic cardboard sculptures re-imagine their experience, evoking the spirit of La Fleur en Papier Doré, the maisonette pub that fostered the creativity of artists and poets and became legendary for giving René Magritte his first exhibition.

With specific inspiration drawn from the sarcastic humor of James Ensor, Magritte’s revolutionary surrealism, and the spontaneity and childlike freedom championed by the CoBrA collective, Dosshaus invites viewers into their fragile, eccentric world and encourages in them the joy of creative expression.

“We build the world in which we wish to live. “
–       Dosshaus. 2017

This exhibition contains several sculpted vignettes composed of multiple objects which are available as complete, self-contained installations.
