Mandy Cao was born and raised in China and graduated from Pasadena’s Art Center College of Design in 2014. Her first exhibition sold out in a single night, and within a few years, her CV would include prominent galleries in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Denver–with most would-be patrons wait-listed indefinitely for new, available paintings.

“The series of paintings in this show is called INSOMNIA. These are works that I’ve been creating since 2018. Many nights without sleep, I saw stars in the sky and felt the silence of the world. There is a world I wanted to show, a world without light and dark, right or wrong, where time does not matter and water remains still; a breathless environment in which air does not exist, but the flowers are always blooming and the grass is composed of colors you never see. Maybe it is a daydream or a gentle nightmare to which you keep returning after you’ve awakened. Time will let you know when to forget.” – Mandy Cao.
