Description

After the 1983 Metallica album of the same name, original cover photograph by Gary L. Heard. This iconic LP helped usher in the heavy metal sub-genre of thrash and launched a career that includes nine Grammy Awards and over 100 million record sales. The combination of speed, heaviness and virtuosity rescued rock n roll in the post-punk and post-disco era, insuring that guitar-driven music would proliferate in an era that also saw the rise of keyboards and electronic instrumentation. The image of a bloody hammer and the militaristic slogan of the title was more than indicative of the music within the record sleeve, it was a predictor of the global political climate of the 1980s.

Exhibited at Indy MOCA in 2014, Houston Museum of Drawing (June-December 2016), Designer Con (November 2017). Ships rolled.
