Adnohia

Adnohia

An Exhibition of Fine, Bio-mechanical Jewelry
Thursday through Sunday, Noon–Six
And by appointment!

ADNOHIA is the nom de bijoux of Japanese designer Ai Honda Kennedy. She holds a Master of Architecture degree from SCI-Arc, which instills her creations with a solitary form and structure. By combining traditional silversmithing and digital design techniques, ADNOHIA produces unique jewelry that echoes the emotions each piece represents.

Feelings that linger forever.
Memories that are ambiguously but certainly there.
A sense of loss that empowers life.

In 2015 she launched (in)Somnia, a purposefully ambiguous line of beautiful and surreal forms that convey an expression of self-exploration, self-forgiveness and self-acceptance. The collection is inspired by living things in nature, but instead of replicating their forms, ADNOHIA reduces them to their defining elements and reconstructs them as new concepts of wearable sculpture. No mere ornaments, these fine pieces speak directly to the wearer’s sense of nostalgia.

“What remains of memories is often a sensuous and vague thing such as a sense of touch, temperature, or scent of air, and emotion associated with that feeling. I make my wearable art for those who have endured sadness and survived pain, and choose to live boldly.” – ADNOHIA.

Ai Honda Kennedy was born in Japan and earned her Masters of Architecture degree from SCI-Arc in Los Angeles as part of a program that included multiple Pritzker Prize winning instructors and guest lecturers. Following work in the architecture and automotive fields she founded her atelier jeweling practice, Adnohia, and has worked as an independent art consultant in the USA and Japan. Pieces from her (in)Somnia line can be found in the collections of Moby, Lars Ulrich, Kat Von D, Lindsey & Gerard Way, the House of Sabah, and the National Gallery of Denmark, as well as private collections all over the United States, Europe and Japan.

To wear one of Ai Honda Kennedy‘s creations is to accept the past, to celebrate the strength within oneself and to keep moving forward for beautiful memories in the future.

Ai was the featured guest on Episode 35 of the Pop Sequentialism podcast.
