Description

Long considered an underground classic, The Journey Home stands beside Desert Solitaire as one of Edward Abbey‘s most important works. In a voice edged with chagrin, Abbey offers a portrait of the American West that readers will not soon forget, presenting the reflections and observations of a man who left the urban world behind in pursuit of the natural one and the myths buried therein. His work has endured some controversy of late for accusations that his writings propagate a stereotype of indigenous North Americans as “noble savages,” though his work was lauded in its day for taking a nuanced view of European colonialism and ecological conservation.

Edward Paul Abbey (January 29, 1927 – March 14, 1989) was an American author, essayist, and environmental activist noted for his advocacy of environmental issues and criticism of public land policies.
