Bernie Wrightson is universally acknowledged as one of the finest illustrators of all time.
Captain Lincoln F. Sternn is a comic book character created by Bernie Wrightson, considered “part Han Solo, part James Garner from The Great Escape“. As written by Wrightson, Sternn is an amoral space captain whose adventures are set in the future. He is sometimes considered a criminal. First published in the pages of Heavy Metal magazine, Sternn was one of only a few vignettes adapted for Heavy Metal the Motion Picture. He is drawn as a caricature of Superman, although his clothing is different; he wears a pseudo-military uniform. He is always accompanied by a small, levitating one-eyed robot, named Beezer, and most closely associated with supporting characters Hanover Fiste and Justine Tyme, the former being even more popular than the titular anti-hero.
Captain Sternn Running Out of Time (Kitchen Sink Press, 1994) was the triumphant return to comics of Wrightson’s most famous solo creation.
The years since Bernie Wrightson’s death have seen the value of his published comic book pages skyrocket in demand and value. Aside from Swamp Thing (co-created with Len Wein), Captain Stern is the most widely know character from Wrightson’s long career in comics, and pages that feature Hanover Fiste are the most sought from the Sternn universe. Hanover Fiste is featured in every panel on this incredible published comic page, making it a rarity among rarities. This page is oversize and even signed at the bottom.
