Alan Forbes was born in Connecticut in 1968, and currently resides in California. He is best known for his concert poster, band logo and album designs, having developed the iconic twin bird logo for the Black Crowes. He has done posters for The Misfits, Howlin Rain, Queens of the Stone Age, Rocky Erickson, Rancid, The Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Fu Manchu, Soundgarden, Jesus Lizard, Nashville Pussy, Guided By Voices, and done album art for AFI, 311, Goldfinger, White Stripes, Rage Against the Machine and Dinosaur Jr.
In October 2013, Forbes was the victim of a brutal assault in the Lower Haight neighborhood of San Francisco. The attack left Forbes with two skull fractures and damage to his right eye that greatly limited his artistic output.
This gorgeous piece from the golden age of Kustom Kulture was part of his first-ever feature exhibition at La Luz de Jesus Gallery in 1994. “Old Homicide” is a tribute to Robert Mitchum in the film Night of the Hunter.
