31 Aug Vakseen
Reception: Sunday, September 8th
Exhibiting: September 1st to 29th
The Peace in Perfection presents a collection of vibrant, new work from Otha Davis III aka Vakseen, a self-taught, museum-exhibited artist and executive music producer (Pitbull, EXO, Iggy Azalea, T-Pain & more) currently based in Los Angeles. Known for his signature Vanity Pop collage paintings, Vakseen’s art celebrates women, diversity and the acute imperfections and endless perfections every woman possesses.
Drawing inspiration from his 90’s childhood, fashion & pop culture, childhood obesity, struggles with personal image & the African-American experience, Vakseen’s abstract portraits serve as a visual dialogue on our society’s idolization of beauty, the cosmetic enhancements endured to meet the status quo and the fragmentation within us as we strive for perfection in a world driven by unrealistic standards. Although his artwork mimics collage or mixed-media, each piece is meticulously hand-painted to blur the boundaries between perception and reality.
Vakseen’s paintings have been exhibited by the city of Los Angeles, the Ontario Museum of History & Art, Brownsville Museum of Fine Art, Spectrum Miami, La Luz de Jesus Gallery, Zhou B Art Center, Julien’s Auctions, Gallery 1988, Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, Adidas, Vans, Playboy, UCLA, Bombay Saaphire Gin, Gallery 825, Abend Gallery, Baton Rouge Gallery, and Soho House London. His artwork has also been published in hundreds of magazines in print and online including Buzzfeed, Complex Magazine, Juxtapoz Magazine, Hi-Fructose Magazine, PoetsArtists, Vibe Magazine, Professional Artist Magazine, High Times Magazine, Kolaj Magazine, Gay Times, BOOOOOOOM and Supersonic Art.
